The western Ukrainian city of Lviv has become a center of refuge for thousands of Ukrainians and a hive of activity for those preparing for a Russian incursion, in the most unlikely of settings

LVIV, Ukraine – There is no time to rest in the Chadashim synagogue. In normal times, this shul in the western city of Lviv, some two hours from the Polish border and seven hours from Kyiv, serves as a Jewish cultural center. Right now, though, as the Russian invasion enters its fifth day, a group of volunteers is busy cleaning the place and transforming this run-down building into a center for receiving refugees.
